Terminal illness difficult years
Pain and suffering;
Yet no tears.
At last it is over;
Sleepless nights
Feigned strength by day,
Loneliness gathering,
Bringing more sorrow her way.
The comfort of friends gathering around.
Bridge clubbing calms emptiness inside.
Home to no sleep, in a house without sound
Save for creaking and cracking
As the structure cools down.
A pill or two numbs her mind.
Blissful sleep ends the day.
Another dawn as grey as her mood.
She shakes herself and forces a smile.
At least she’s alive she must not brood.
Ringing telephone bringing news.
Wisdom from a friend who’s very shrewd
Counting her blessings she breaks down and cries.
In the gathering gloom the day slipped past.
A fine dinner with friends a drink or two
We’ve planned a holiday just for you
Pleasant evening completes empty day.
Soon her holiday will ensue.
The warmth of the sun comes her way.
New friends and fine places give her a lift.
Spirits high, pain fading
Time heals unto peace at last!
