SearchFifty seven Islamic nations in the United Nations are pushing for a resolution to force all UN member countries pass laws banning religious defamation. This is nothing short of outrageous. Why do the muslims think they can limit our right to freedom of speech just because we have different opinions?
No matter what you say about Islam, it can be construed as blasphemy simply because it questions the tenets of their religion. If I even question the link between Islam and terrorism, according to this new law, I could be charged with blasphemy.
The problem with this resolution is that it will affect discussion about any religion. It will stifle spirited open debate, and bring back the dark ages.
Well guess what? I really don’t give a damn whether my questioning religious beliefs offends any theist, muslim or not. I question all religious beliefs, so why do muslims think they are so special that I cannot do the same with their religious beliefs?
Unless we all stand up and start fighting this lunacy we invite further attacks on our freedoms. Now that we have finally seen the back end of one religious lunatic, George W. Bush, surely we are not going to let the UN start bullying us to ‘respect’ Islam?
Why should we?
It is a religious belief. If someone is stupid enough to believe in it that is their business…not mine! I refuse to kowtow to people like this. If laws like this ever do get passed you can be sure I will disobey them publicly and as often as I can. Is that what these fools want?
